2022 Distinguished New Educator Elsy Mora

Recently recognized by the Santa Barbara County Board of Education as 2022's Distinguished New Educator, Elsy Mora is a second year Math Teacher at La Colina Junior High School. Her personal journey creates a special connection with many of her students. She commutes to Santa Barbara from Lompoc, where she grew up after migrating from Mexico.

Elsy went on to attend UC Davis as a Gates Millennium Scholar, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Chicana/o Studies. She then got her Master's Degree and Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics at UC Santa Barbara’s Teacher Education Program as a PEAC Community Fellow. She loves being a teacher "because she gets to be so much more than that for her students."
