Dawson Kelly, Santa Barbara Unified School District Student Board Member

In this episode we talked with Dawson Kelly the student board member on the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education. As a student board member, Kelly will be an advisory voting member of the board on all matters (except those subject to closed session), participating in discussion, and offer ing a preferential vote on some agenda items. With a preferential vote, the student's vote is recorded in the board meeting minutes, but does not affect the final outcome of a voting item.

Dawson is a junior at San Marcos high school. He also attended Peabody Charter Elementary School and La Colina Junior High School. Kelly has served as a member of the Mental Wellness Connection Council since 2018 where he advocates for mental health education and resources for young people. He is a member of Santa Barbara’s Youth Making Change, Youth and Government, Boys Teen Charity, President of Orkeeswa Youth Board, CAYEN Advocacy Team and member of San Marcos ASB since his freshman year.
